EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE
2016-04-24Kick off 2017
2017-02-01As the New Year has approached we want to look back at the past year, reflect on our activities and share our plans for 2017. The Lithuanian Professionals in Stockholm Club was officially established in May 2015 and had so far brought many different professionals together. Here what we have done since the summer.
DIVERSITY AT WORK: KNOW TO SUCCEED
On 25th August we learnt from Camilla Rundberg why gender diversity is important for business, what kind of benefits do businesses get from gender diversity, and how the inclusion could be established and improved in the workplace.
VISIT TO UPPSALA UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
What can be better than combining a nice afternoon out, meeting old and new friends in a beautiful city and learning about Lithuanian history? On 2nd September our Club members and guests visited the Uppsala University Library where a specially prepared exhibition Lithuania on the Map was waiting for us. It was a big surprise to find Retow or Gorgzdy on the map Magni Ducatus Lithuaniae printed in 1613.

EFFECTIVE NETWORKING: PRACTICAL WORKSHOP
Andrew Hennigan, the author of Payforward Networking, presented and then helped to practice the skills of effective networking. This workshop on 27th September was yet another successful cooperation between the professionals of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Our networking continues!

PROJECT MANAGEMENT: TRICKS OF THE TRADE
In our Club we not only invite external speakers but share our own experience. On 25th October the Lithuanian professionals and more importantly our trusted members and friends Rita Bajar0nienė and Darius Liubinas (TeliaSonera), Aušra Vaišvilaitė (Elfa), Ernestas Čejauskas (Goodyear Dunlop Tires Nordic), and the moderator Oleg Smertin (Swedbank) shared their tricks of managing projects.
We are grateful to the Lithuanian Embassy for hosting this workshop.
LEARNING FROM BIOMEDICAL PROFESSIONALS
We couldn’t stop learning from each other. On request from several Club members, on 15th November we organised our Club’s own mini-TEDx talks on various topics in the biomedical research and profession. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CRP), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), genetics, medical imaging, and many other topics. These raised lots of questions but we ran out of time. The most frequent feedback we received was: “We want to know more!”
This evening was organised at the premises of TeliaSonera in Solna’s Mall of Scandinavia. We even had an informal tour of premises on the way to our meeting room. Thanks to Rita Bajar0nienė and Darius Liubinas for arranging a place to meet!
WITH JURGIS DIDŽIULIS AT TEDx STOCKHOLM AND OVER BREAKFAST
The LPS Club is proud to have brought a piece of Lithuanian culture to Sweden. We sponsored Jurgis Didžiulis’ fantastic appearance at TEDx Stockholm Crossroads event on 21st November. For that two Club members got a fantastic opportunity to watch the event from the 1st row and other Club members were able to buy their tickets with a discount. At the end we all were saying (or were we singing?): “Patinka!”
And the morning after, our Club members and the wider Lithuanian community met with Jurgis over breakfast. He involved us in the discussion about What it means to be a Lithuanian?
THE QUEST FOR BETTER LEADERSHIP
To close the season, on 30th November Gregg Vanourek, an entrepreneurial leader, award-winning author, teacher, and change maker involved us in the interactive workshop about leadership. We really had to work sitting in small groups around desks in an auditorium at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). It was fun and one lucky ‘student’ won Gregg’s book!
This event was organised together with the Latvian Investment and Development Agency.
AFTERWORK AND MUSIC
Despite this busy schedule the Club members met for informal AWs. We tried a glass of champagne at the Champagne Bar of Södra Teatern; ate delicious greek food at Dionysis, one of the oldest Greek restaurants in Stockholm; and joined the 1st ever pan-Baltic AW at hotel Sheraton.
And if that wasn’t enough, the Club contributed to the Lithuanian Music Day in Stockholm and helped the Lithuanian Youth Society in Sweden to organise a discussion with the Lithuanian rock star Andrius Mamontovas and folk band Kujeliai which ended with a pleasant dinner.
WONDER WHAT’S NEXT? HERE ARE OUR PLANS FOR 2017
The kick-off 2017 will take place on 20th January at Bocconi restaurant. Last year we liked the venue and the atmosphere there so much, that we’ve decided to make this cosy place a venue for our annual grand starts. Other events in the making include a tour of NASDAQ Stockholm, a talk about the impact of an environment on the outcome of a meeting, an update about the economic outlook in the Nordics, a visit to AstraZeneca and many more.
